Baseball season may be wrapping up for the year, but the Kiwanis Club of South Arlington is stepping up to the plate in support of Kiwanis International’s Possibility Project.
The initiative aims to support 10 million worldwide through a $25 million fund-raising and grant campaign to boost the Kiwanis Children’s Fund.
“With grants from the Children’s Fund, it takes just $2.25 to impact one child. Imagine the impact we could make together,” Kiwanis International said in asking individual clubs to sign on.
Following a presentation by Jen Wolff of the Capital District, club members voted unanimously on Oct. 1, committing to becoming an “Impact Club” — pledging at least $100 per member per year in support of the effort.
With the vote, both Arlington Kiwanis clubs are now participating, as the Kiwanis Club of Arlington earlier pledged its support.
Grants generated from the funding will support initiatives ranging from literacy to health.
To date, more than $10.5 million has been raised internationally for the initiative, with another $3.5 million pledged.
It is another initiative of the South Arlington Kiwanis Club to support youth. At the local level, the club sponsors the Arlington Community High School Key Club and partners on an informal basis with Randolph Elementary School.
